ILSMs - Emergency Management

Should emergency management scenarios include ILSM plans?

Yes. Organizations should consider implementing ILSMs whenever life safety is compromised. Emergency management plans identify emergency procedures in adverse conditions. The decision to implement ILSMs may augment the emergency management process, but these should never conflict. Emergencies are not one-dimensional and often escalate beyond the original problem. Implementing appropriate ILSMs can help prevent the primary emergency from escalating into a life safety emergency. During recent emergencies, for example, health care organizations have effectively used ILSMs to manage their exit routes and other fire protection features. As a result, these crises have not been compounded by compromised life safety.
