Equipment Scheduled Maintenance

What is equipment scheduled maintenance based on?

Equipment scheduled maintenance can be based on all of the following: manufacturers’ recommendations, risk levels, and current hospital experience. Limiting PM scheduling only to manufacturers’ recommendations would not be in an organization’s best interest because, sometimes, manufacturers' recommendations are labor and parts excessive, with little or no recognized benefit to patient care or safety. Besides that, manufacturers might be motivated to sell consumable supplies used in maintaining their products. And finally, they could also be protecting themselves from liability by having the user perform more inspections and maintenance procedures than might actually be required.
