Maintenance Repair Shop

Why do Maintenance repair shops need sprinkler systems?

According to the 2012 Hospital Accreditation Standards maintenance repair shops are considered hazardous areas. LS.02.02.30 Element of Performance 2 requires existing maintenance repair shops to have sprinkler systems, resist the passage of smoke, and have doors with self-closing or automatic-closing devices; or the shops have 1-hour fire-rated walls with at least 3/4-hour fire-rated doors. New maintenance repair shops have sprinkler systems and have 1-hour fire-rated walls with 3/4-hour fire-rated doors. Refer to NFPA 101-2000 18/19.3.2.1 Hazardous Areas.
