Do you know of a regulatory citation that requires crash carts to be plugged into a red outlet? There is a local policy that requires life support systems (not sure if the definition applies to a crash cart but it does apply to the defibrillator) to be plugged into a red outlet.
I am not aware of any code or standard that mandates that crash carts be plugged into a red (emergency power) outlet. I recommend a risk assessment if you will not be using EP outlets for your defibrillators. However, you also need to check with your state and local AHJ’s because they may have more stringent requirements. If you do decide on normal power, I suggest you get something into your EOP to deal with that decision during a prolonged normal power outage or a prolonged outage of the normal power panel(s) serving any area in which they are located.
