Bomb Threat Exercises

How many times must a bomb threat exercise be held annually?

Joint Commission standards do not specifically require bomb threat exercises as a scenario for the emergency exercises. The Joint Commission expectation is that you utilize your hazard vulnerability analysis (HVA) to assist in choosing your exercise topics and scenarios. Based on the HVA, you may or may not be doing a bomb threat exercise in a given year. If the bomb threat scenario involves organization staff and requires active participation as well as initiation of the emergency management plan, it would satisfy one of the two emergency management plan exercises (see EC.4.20).
