Are electrical panels that are located in patient care corridors required to be locked?
Joint Commission standards do not require that electrical panels located in patient care corridors be locked. The NFPA 70 National Electrical Code does not require such locking either. However, you might want to include this as a “risk assessment” issue to be considered by your safety or EC committee. There is a definite potential for unauthorized access to those panels that could affect patient safety.
