Does TJC require hospitals to provide a hand washing sink inside the MRI suite, or can it be outside the control room area in close proximity?
The Joint Commission (TJC) standards do not specifically address this matter. However, they would expect compliance with state rules and regulations or the 2010 Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities. Per Guidelines section 2.2-3-4-4-4 Hand-washing station, “Hand-washing stations shall be provided convenient to the MRI scanner room, but need not be within the room.”
