From whom should we request an equivalency for a Life Safety Code deficiency?
If an accredited hospital has a Life Safety Code deficiency that they want to request an equivalency for, they should send their official request to TJC. They should also have a sign-off by their local AHJ, e.g., the local fire marshal and submit that to TJC as well. If the hospital is receiving Medicare reimbursements from CMS, then they should also apply for a waiver from CMS.
